Speakers: Maxine , New Zealand
Maxine : Hi I'm Maxine and I'm from the Bay of Plenty in New Zealand.
Can we see some of your Draw Awesome artwork?
Maxine : OK, this was the rhino I did with charcoal.
Maxine : Oh this was pen and ink.
Maxine : So yeah, this one was really good.
Maxine : ...The iguana as well, which did take a while but it was really good. Then we did a car with watercolour and and pen and ink. Really cool.
Maxine : We did some pastel pictures that that was my bits of a face. And my chicken thing.
Maxine : This was the frog we did with watercolour and ink.
Maxine : I couldn't do watercolours - it's amazing. And this was a portrait that I've just done and I put it on facebook and I got heaps of comments about it and people were like "oh you should be selling it" and all this stuff. But I don't want to sell it. I'm just - I'm quite amazed that I can do something like that.
What made you join Draw Awesome?
Maxine : I always wanted to learn how to draw and I suppose about 15 years ago I did go for art lessons until the lady stopped teaching us. And then I found Art Tutor and Art Art Tutor was brilliant. It's just I found I couldn't do my own stuff. I was I was always only doing stuff that I followed with a tutor. So Draw Awesome has been great because Phil encourages you to do your own stuff as well as the lessons. So it's been really good. The other thing was I always just shied away from watercolour - was absolutely hopeless. So I've done the watercolour module and yeah I just love it. It's just brilliant.
Tell us how Draw Awesome has helped to improve your art.
Maxine : Draw Awesome has really, really helped me. It's... what I actually like about it is we get new projects every week. But I don't keep up. I'm so far behind, but it doesn't matter. It's it's more about enjoying the time that I do have to do it and doing it properly.
Maxine : Watercolour was something that I did want to know. And yeah, the way Phil shows you with doing the pen on top, you - your level of confidence just much better.
Maxine : I actually do... I do like doing oil painting, which Phil doesn't cover, but it's helped me so much to do the initial drawing and fill in the colours and and all that. So I'm enjoying my oil painting as well.
Maxine : But yeah, I am enjoying it a lot and I'm only halfway through, although I signed up in the first intake. But Phil keeps telling you, it doesn't actually matter. It doesn't matter if it's... you just go at your own pace, which suits me.
So would you recommend it to others?
Maxine : I would definitely recommend Draw Awesome to anybody. I do recommend it. I find it affordable. You follow at your own pace, which is important for me because I do work and I've got a lot of other things that I'm doing as well. So I don't need the stress of going somewhere every Wednesday night or something, to do art. I can just do it whenever I feel like I've got the spare time. Phil has a definite path that he's he's showing you you can see how you're improving over the weeks, never mind which medium you're using.
Maxine : And I think from doing it almost - not daily, but regularly you just get, just get better at it. It's like playing a music instrument. So yes, I would, I would recommend it - it is affordable. For me, it... it... just is amazing and I love Draw Awesome. And I tell everybody about it.
