Karin : Hi my name is Karen, I'm from Quebec, Canada.
Can you show some of your Draw Awesome artwork that you're most pleased with?
Karin : So I think the projects that I'm most proud of are the ones with ink because you can't erase ink and I was always... ...I was always afraid of even just sketching with pencils because I'm not that good with it. And so when we started the ink projects, obviously I was reluctant to try it, but I figured "Well, I committed to Draw Awesome, so I should see this through!" And so far, Phil has been very easy to follow and and I was able to produce some pretty amazing stuff and I would go to work and show this to my colleagues and they're like, "Wow, Karin, this is so cool, you're so good at this, you should keep it up!" And this gives me the incentive to keep on going. And even though some projects or challenges seem really like, "Whoa!" - - far-fetched, I give it a try. Only because I know Phil is there and his instruction is is so, so exact. I can stop it, halt the recording any time and play it over and I just follow his his instructions and I get it - - I get it! So it's fun. Thanks!
So do you have any 'Before' and 'After' examples of work to show your progress under Draw Awesome?
Karin : Before I started Draw Awesome, I was... doing very amateurish types of watercolour. I really like watercolour! I like the magic that it creates. So I was doing a lot of beginner's workshops and you know, doing colour swatches like this or little simple paintings like that. I don't know if I can see where - - or stuff like this, or portraits. This was my very first portrait and when I did Draw Awesome, I was able to produce portraits like this! Isn't this guy beautiful! I love it, I'm so proud of the work I do in Draw Awesome. The steps are so easy to follow. I find Phil is an amazing teacher - - a very great instructor. Thank you.
How do you think Draw Awesome has helped you?
Karin : So before I took - before I got involved with Draw Awesome, I was always afraid of the very first step in watercolour and that is doing your sketch and I would draw so pale and I could barely see it... ...and now I'm drawing in ink - look at that! And you can't erase ink, obviously. So I'm super-proud of the things that I'm able to produce in Draw Awesome. And every week, when I get my e-mail on Wednesday morning, I'm so anxious to see - - it's like opening a Christmas present! "Oh my God, what is my challenge today?" And I would wake up super-early so that I could see this video and see what my next challenge was and I would think about it all day - all day... I would think about my project and how I was going to execute it and I knew that Phil was right there to instruct me and show me how to produce an awesome drawing. It's so cool, thank you Phil!
Finally, what are some of the things you like most about Draw Awesome?
Karin : So what do I like about Draw Awesome? Oh my gosh, there's so many things I like about Draw Awesome - mostly is the constant reminder that it's okay to make mistakes. It's okay and even Phil will point out what he thinks is a mistake and at the end when he's finished his drawing or his sketch or whatever, Mmm... ...you don't see that mistake! And it's the same with your projects when you make what you think is a mistake. By the time you finish your project, you don't even see that mistake. It's so amazing. And the fact that, you know, you made a mistake, but you don't see it at the end, gives you more inspiration to keep going at it, you know. And you know, okay, maybe I make a mistake... Well, it's not gonna show in the end, y'know. Only you know it's there! And then the instructions are so easy to follow and you can always go back and you can... ...he also tells you, "Okay, you can take a pause now, go make yourself a drink." And I mean, that drink can be anything, but for me, it's a martini or a glass of wine. You can drink some water... ...me, it's a martini or a glass of wine! I like that when he says casually, you know, to take a drink for your pause and catch up with me and it's it's just so easy to follow. It's very casual and you know, your mistakes are probably your best challenges too, because like I said in the end, you're the only one who knows it's there and you won't even see it. If you won't even see your mistake, how is anybody else going to see it? It's so cool. I love Draw Awesome!
