Barbara Green: Hi I'm Barbara and I'm from California.
Can we see an example of your work with Draw Awesome?
Barbara Green: Here's a good example of one of our assignments in which we just really had some great teaching techniques shared with us that Phil taught us. Just the rocks on the beach, just getting that three dimensional effect of the rocks and the rest of the boat and how to do the clouds and just the sky, light and the wet sand. A lot of elements involved. And his teaching style is such that he goes through all these different techniques in order to master them. And I just I feel that without his help, this picture I wouldn't have even approached something like this. And yet this was just all done in the one week assignment.
Before choosing Draw Awesome, what techniques did you struggle with?
Barbara Green: Before starting Draw Awesome, I was constantly taking courses trying to better my art projects, usually online but sometimes within a classroom situation. But it was not specific enough in terms of helping me on an individual individual basis. And so I did a lot of Chinese brush painting as you can see behind me. Some of those pictures and that was just very detailed work almost like a photograph and a lot of the line drawings were already provided, so we just had to copy the line items and filled in with watercolour, which wasn't really expanding my techniques. And I was unable to take any courses that specifically address drawing people or perspective. It was pretty much playing around with watercolour, but none of the detailed work.
How has Draw Awesome helped you?
Barbara Green: I would honestly have to say that my art, the number one art skill that has really helped me is completing projects because prior to Draw Awesome, I would start a project and if I did not like it, I would just abandon abandon it, throw it out. Start over. However, this Course - - this Course... the fact that you're taken through from the very beginning of the project until it's over at the end of the week, you're learning all the ways to get through the hurdles and the difficult parts drawing the eye and how to measure and look at it, keep looking at your photo reference, going back to your drawing - the back and forth - and you begin just because of the repetition to get better and better. Then that leads to a greater sense of confidence because you know that you've completed something and you feel really good about that. So it's exciting, very exciting to have the next week to look forward to when there's a new project and the enjoyment of during the week to finish something and also start a brand new masterpiece.
What do you like best about Draw Awesome and would you recommend it to others?
Barbara Green: I cannot stress enough how well Draw Awesome has been designed and organized. The teaching methods are just fabulous and Phil's technique is done so well that I am impressed with every single lesson and after all these months I feel that it never gets older, tiresome. It just is always refreshing. You have a nice range of materials to work with. The subject matter has a nice span of different types of pictures and so it's suitable for everybody and all levels. And I cannot recommend it highly enough. So thank you.
