Speaker: Tabitha Schmaltz

Please introduce yourself in a couple of sentences.

Tabitha Schmaltz: Hi, I am Tabitha Schmaltz and I am a software services manager here at Dean Dorton.

What led you to work with accounting software rather than doing traditional accounting work?

Tabitha Schmaltz: Um, a little over 10 years ago, I started working with a local CPA firm to do tax returns and some traditional outsourced accounting work. And at the time I started working with, um, Sage Intacct, uh building reports for small business owners and for other clients. And I really liked being a part of um, a team that was able to help owners get more information from their accounting data than they traditionally were able to get. So, um, I really liked that part of the world rather than doing traditional accounting.

What are your superpowers – something you’re good at that others should know about?

Tabitha Schmaltz: So I don't normally tell people about my superpowers. Um, but I have two superpowers. One is I am a time traveler. Um That's why most of my hobbies are what kids today now call grandma hobbies. I crochet, knit, needle-work, use a sewing machine. I also garden, have chickens, uh preserve food and cans, the normal grandma hobbies. Um, so clearly from the wrong era. And uh the second is that I have the ability to be in more places, um, more than one place at a time. Um So if I were to tell you about my normal everyday schedule, I, it is jam, jam packed. And the only way that that would ever make sense is if I could, um, duplicate myself and be more than one place at a time.

Tell us what is at the top of your proverbial "bucket list."

Tabitha Schmaltz: The top of my proverbial bucket list is retiring and enjoying, uh, the quiet with my husband and our family. Um, so, uh, buy a lot of land in the middle of nowhere and just enjoy the quiet until that happens. Um I'm just going to, uh, take advantage of as many weekends as I can traveling, um, enjoying the RV with our kids and, um, just, uh, pretending to be retired, I guess.
