Speaker: Cathy Foley, Australia's Chief Scientist

Cathy Foley: Hello, Charlie and Hello, everyone who's competing for the title of National Science Quiz Champion. My name is Cathy Foley and I'm Australia's Chief Scientist. My question relates to a natural phenomenon to do with light. Bubbles and oil slicks can have a wide range of colours due to what nanoscale phenomenon. Is it A. The light refracts through the bubble film, spreading the spectrum as occurs in a rainbow or B. Some colours are removed when light bounces between the edges of the bubble film or C. Different colours of light travel at different speeds through the bubble film.
