What do you hope teachers will take away from this course?
Betsy Butler: Hi, this is Betsy Butler and I'm one of the creators of course 693: Fully Wired and this course focuses on adolescence. So we're talking preteens and teens. And in this course, teachers really understand the idea of engagement and interaction and how to really use what's happening in the adolescent brain to make their lessons more engaging and therefore more participation in class from those adolescents. I think teenagers need our help more than ever, and this is a good way to start thinking about ways that we can approach them in school, to keep them motivated and to let them know that they have a safe place to learn.
What do you love about this course?
Betsy Butler: I love this course because we don't have any other courses at the moment, we're working on it, but not a lot of courses at the moment that focus particularly on this population of students. And I think that oftentimes things get missed with this population with adolescents and sometimes middle and high school because I think we assume that once teenagers and adolescents can kind of get through those different growing pains that they can navigate whatever the world's throwing at them and the world is hard right now for all of us. And so I really love this idea that we can really focus in on this population and intentionally work to make our classrooms an accepting environment and also just a really engaging learning environment for those teens and preteens. So I think this is a great course for that.
