Speaker: Betsy Butler, Course Writer and Designer

What do you hope teachers will take away from this course?

Betsy Butler: Hi, I'm Betsy Butler. I'm the course writer and designer of course 5576: World Language Differentiation for Heritage and Native Speakers. This is such a great course to focus on those learners who have been speaking the target language from the word "go," and to have them offer their perspectives as part of the world language classroom. We focus on the language experience, experience approach and also oracy, along with so many ideas and strategies for differentiating for those learners. Much of this could be used for gifted and talented learners as well.

What do you love about this course?

Betsy Butler: What I love about this course is the specific and intentional focus on native and heritage learners. Oftentimes I think that teachers really want to support and serve students who are native and heritage speakers. But sometimes you just don't have the strategies to do so. This course will provide some of that foundational information so that you can include them more in all of your courses, not just in world language.
