Speaker: Betsy Butler, Course Creator
What do you hope teachers will take away from this course?
Betsy Butler: Hi, I'm Betsy Butler and I'm the course writer for course 5524: Reimagining Trauma Informed Practices with Equity. This course takes what you know about trauma informed practice and elevates it by including aspects of equity, because truly, if trauma is existent, oftentimes inequity is the, is the reason for that. So this course really does a great job of addressing things like deficit thinking, setting boundaries, and even unconditional positive regard to make sure that all students feel welcome and that there is a culture of kindness within the classroom and in the school community.
What do you love about this course?
Betsy Butler: This course, really reinforces the idea of what it means to be trauma informed, but also, again, equitably trauma informed and making sure that the practices that we use in school are inclusive of all children. And it's one of the things I really like about it is there's, there's some activities in the course that really are designed to not only highlight critical consciousness and healing, but also they really can be transformative in the way that students are able to express themselves through art or music or an issue that might be really prevalent in the world today. Students can really work towards healing and be able to assert themselves in a way that's meaningful for them.
