Speaker: Betsy Butler, Course Writer

What do you hope teachers will take away from this course?

Betsy Butler: Hi, I'm Betsy Butler. I'm a course writer here at Teaching Channel and I'm talking to you today about course 5420: Educating with Neurodiversity in Mind. This is a very similar course to our brand new neurodiversity or our other neurodiversity course, this is the fast track version of it. So you'll see that we concentrate on behavior interventions, celebrating strengths and also just really understanding how myths and misconceptions can really play a role in how we can see students and how we may perceive a bias towards their differences. When in fact, they have a whole lot of strengths to share.

What do you love about this course?

Betsy Butler: I love that this course really centers around finding the strengths that your neurodivergent learners are offering. They may not be able to participate in the same way in the classroom. They may need some special accommodations or modifications, but all in all they all have strengths to offer, to contribute to the classroom community. And I think this is a great way to learn more about that and how to celebrate it.
