Speaker: Betsy Butler, Course Creator

What do you hope teachers will take away from this course?

Betsy Butler: Hi, I'm Betsy Butler and I'm the course creator for course 5344: Understanding and Affirming Transgender and Non-Binary Students. I think this is a course that I am most proud of because I think it offers perspectives into what students are thinking and feeling and also kind of what the experts say and how schools can be supportive and affirming places for students who are, who identify as transgender or non binary. This actually is part of including the whole aspect of LGBT LGBTQ+ students, but really transgender kids have specific challenges on their own. And I think that this course does a great job of articulating those and showing ways that we can be supportive of those students.

What do you love about this course?

Betsy Butler: There's really so much I love about this course, truly. One of the things I appreciate about it is that it really focuses ways to provide more accessibility and opportunity for students who identify as transgender or, or non-binary. We focus on things like transphobic bullying and gender inclusion with curriculum and representation and all the ways that you really can be an advocate for a transgender slash non-binary student. I think you're really gonna like the course. I'm super proud of it and I hope that your students are impacted as well by your learning.
