Speaker: Betsy Butler, Course Creator
What do you hope teachers will take away from this course?
Betsy Butler: Hi, I'm Betsy Butler and I'm the course creator for course 5323: SEL for Middle and High school Students. This is a course that I think will provide several ways of getting at the ideas of identity, empathy and understanding with students. And there are a lot of a lot of connections to the castle framework for SEL and I think that it's important to have specific ways of approaching this age group for SEL instruction. And I think you'll find all of that in this course.
What do you love about this course?
Betsy Butler: What I love about this course is that middle and high school is often not where you find a ton of SEL strategies to be successful. Lots of elementary schools use SEL tactics and there's a lot out there for them, but not much for middle and high school students. And so I appreciate that. I also appreciate that this course offers an opportunity for students to engage in some meta cognitive strategies and also for self regulation. And I think this is the course we've been waiting for to ensure that our older learners have a chance at developing some of those SEL skills.
