Speaker: Betsy Butler, Course Writer

What do you hope teachers will take away from this course?

Betsy Butler: Hi, I'm Betsy Butler and I'm here to talk to you today about our new storylines course called 5321: Questions and Connections with NGSS Storylines. NGSS is, of course, the Next Generation Science Standards and we already offer two other courses on that on the NGSS. This is kind of the final piece of what we'd like to offer to represent that framework. This has a wonderful framework that allows students to iterate and discuss and drive their own learning and it can be used in or out of an NGSS classroom and for lots of other content areas too.

What do you love about this course?

Betsy Butler: What I love about this course is that it truly is focused on directing the questions back to the students. It's a framework so that if you, if you say that you want to do student centered learning or you want students to drive the content and drive their questions in order to learn, storylines offers that process. And so it's very clear on how students move from step to step and then how they can just continue that process until they have arrived at a place where they feel their questions have been answered. This is a remarkable framework that again, you can use for any content area. And I think that it's just a really cool way to make sure that students are set up for success.
