Speaker: Betsy Butler, Course Creator
What do you hope teachers will take away from this course?
Betsy Butler: Hi, I'm Betsy Butler and I am the course creator for course 5307: The Art and Skill of Listening to Understand. This course covers all sorts of strategies focused on passive and active listening and good feedback and all of the ways that we hope students will listen and we hope colleagues will listen to each other, but they don't always get to that point. So I think that this course is wonderful at providing ideas and strategies for increasing listening skills for yourself, but also for your students.
What do you love about this course?
Betsy Butler: This course was so fun to write because I learned so much about my own listening strategies and my own listening challenges. And I think that this really does draw into the idea of listening, being such a strong component in our humanity and being able to communicate with each other and really hear and understand how people feel or what they're trying to what they're trying to communicate. And so I love this course for that and I think that it works very well again for both teacher listening and also for student listening. And it may not fix the "What did you just say" or "What are we supposed to do now"? But it will help students dial in more closely to engage with the person who is speaking with them or communicating with them. I think it's a great course.
