What do you hope teachers will take away from this course?

susanne leslie: Hi, I'm Susanne and I'm the course designer for course 5287: Transforming the Mathematical Experiences of Young Children. What we hope teachers will take away. Well, first of all, that math is everywhere and you will have the opportunity to learn a lot about how to include math in informal spaces. So transitioning from one activity to another is an opportunity to talk about math or to teach math. And then another thing that you will explore is how to encourage families to include math at home.

What do you love about this course?

susanne leslie: What do we love about this course? I think one of the things that we love the most is that the course spends time exploring whether or not we are "math people." And the book talks a little bit about how the world is mathematical and that just the way that we learn it in school does not necessarily always translate to the real world. For example, understanding different routes to get to a destination is mathematical. Going to the grocery store and strategizing a budget, that's mathematical. So there are many different ways to be a quote unquote "math person" in the world and it's not just the way we learn it in school. So we know that you'll love this course, we hope that you check it out. Thanks.
