Speaker: Betsy Butler, Course Developer
What do you hope teachers will take away from this course?
Betsy Butler: Hi, I'm Betsy Butler and I'm one of the course creators for course 5256: Unlocking World Language Through Comprehensible Input. And although that's a mouthful, I know that world language teachers are looking for ways to continue to adopt CI into their instruction so that they can work towards using the target language in the world language classroom 90% of the time as recommended by ACTFL. And so a lot of what that does means that you are teaching using language that is just above what your students can comprehend right now. So they can actually tie in what they know to what they don't know as they are learning and getting the input from their teachers.
What do you love about this course?
Betsy Butler: I love that this course focuses on a particular instructional strategy that world language teachers like to use and they want to use more of. The target language of 90% usage is a high bar from ACTFL and it is achievable, but it's not achievable every day. And so this course provides strategies and structures to a accommodate learners as they continue to get that input from their teachers learning that target language. And I think you'll find this to be a really beneficial course that really focuses on a variety of ways to get to that 90% usage. But also to provide ways that you can scaffold and get your learners to where they need to be when they're using the target language.
