Speaker: Betsy Butler, Course Creator

What do you hope teachers will take away from this course?

Betsy Butler: Hi, my name is Betsy Butler and I'm one of the creators of course 5015 on the Writer's Notebook and the Writers' Workshop. And as a former English teacher, I'm just, this concept is near and dear to my heart because I've seen so much success with the way that students are able to work with one another and really workshop their writing in a way that is productive and also affirming. This course goes through all of the writing process from revision and drafting to the, the different peer editing and the peer review pieces. And I think that it's just a really good comprehensive look at how to do workshops and how to empower students to write what they know and what they feel.

What do you love about this course?

Betsy Butler: I really like that this course focuses on celebrating the entire aspect, all the aspects of the writers' workshop. Focusing on collaboration and celebration, but also really providing supports to students who are clearly making the brave choice to share their writing and to keep developing it as, as we know, it's one of those processes that can sometimes lag a little bit. But the end product is always what the student can feel really, really good about. Lots of collaborative processes, as I said, and ways to get students to share and write the best that they can through some peer encouragement as well.
