Speaker: Manuel Perez, EGO

Tell us about yourself, your company and your role.

Manuel Perez: Hi. This is Manuel. I'm the head of development at Ego A fast fashion brand based in Manchester. I lead the internal Development Team and I'm also responsible for all technical projects and for approving all third party companies we work with from a technical point of view.

Why did you choose to downgrade to the open source version of Adobe Commerce (Magento)?

Manuel Perez: we decided to downgrade to Magento open source, mainly because of two reasons. The first one was the price of the licence. Adobe quoted us almost twice what we paid the previous year just on licence fees. Second reason was that we identified that of all the features that Magento Enterprise offers, we were only using three of them. The three features that we were using were very slow, were buggy and was making our life harder. We did some research and discovered that there are better tools out there for a fraction of the price. So we decided that instead of paying magento enterprise fees, we were going to downgrade to community and replace those features with better tools that were third party and SaaS

How did Corefinity help with this project?

Manuel Perez: Corefinity played a key role in this project From the beginning. When we asked them for help, we thought they were gonna be helpful, like they have always been. But we didn't expect that they were going to offer to do the database migration for us. Then downgrading the database to open source was the most complicated part of the project. And they did it. They worked very, very very hard. We gave them a deadline. The deadline was met and it was successful. They not only did this, they also set up a new UAT environment that was dedicated for the downgrade project. My team was working on the concept of things while Corefinity was working on database updates to get the schema from enterprise to open source. Several dry runs of this project was done, some of them even on weekends, to be sure that when the date was here to deploy, the deployment was going to be successful. And it was at four in the morning. On the third of April, I think this year the Corefinity and Ego team went online, and they post live the Magento downgrade successfully

How did the go-live process play out and did you face any issues?

Manuel Perez: the Magento downgrade was a total success. On the day of the deployment, nothing went wrong. Everything went out very smooth. There were no bugs. There were no errors. In fact, we had less downtime than we thought.

Would you recommend Corefinity?

Manuel Perez: would I recommend Corefinity? Yes, absolutely. Since the first day we started working together, they have been one of the best partners that we have. They've never let us down. They've always been super supportive and anything we've needed. They have been there for us. I definitely recommend Corefinity not only for a downgrade project, but for your hosting of your application as well.
