Speaker: Kimberly Silverthorn
What inspired you to become part of SAAEF?
Kimberly Silverthorn: Hi, I decided to become a part of the SAAEF group because I wanted to advocate for my students and my program. I wanted to make sure that there were more possibilities. For my program to continue helping people and not just my local program but across the state and across the country as well.
What were your biggest accomplishments during your SAAEF fellowship?
Kimberly Silverthorn: Honestly, my accomplishments started slowly and they're still slowly progressing. But I have learned a lot through this program. My biggest accomplishments were finding allies in the field. And also finding a little bit more about what was going on in my state and in the country, and about other resources that I had no idea about before. So, I really appreciate that. It'll help me in the future.
What would you like to say to someone in the field who is unsure if they have what it takes to be an advocate?
Kimberly Silverthorn: I would say to anyone who is not sure if advocacy is right for them. That we can all learn, we can all help. I knew absolutely nothing about advocacy except for the grassroots work I was doing at the beginning. And I've learned so much, and I believe that anybody who joins this program will learn a lot.
