Speaker: Emma Borho
What were your highlights from attending CONNECTION, the 2024 CIP/APPI conference?
Emma Borho: I loved attending the CONNECTION 2024 CIP conference and I attended a lot of wonderful sessions that really exposed me to new planning topics that as someone who's new to the planning field, I hadn't been exposed to yet and that maybe I wouldn't have been exposed to otherwise, also, in particular, I really liked connecting with, as a scholarship winner, with the other scholarship winners who were also there. As well as other students who were attending the conference. It was really enjoyable and really educational.
Were you able to make good connections with other attendees?
Emma Borho: I was able to make quite a few good connections with other attendees. Particularly the younger planners who were newer to the field like myself and the other students who were there. It was very interesting and just really nice to have some authentic connections with those people about their planning programs and hearing about what planning programs are like across the country and what the job search is like across the country. As well as hearing what other students are studying or researching in their master's programs because as we know, each school seems to have some different focuses. So that was a really uh fun and enjoyable part for me.
How do you think the experience will impact your future career?
Emma Borho: The CIP conference this year, I think will impact my career in the future by first of all, having given me some foundations of other planning topics that I wasn't aware of before or that weren't really on my radar as much as others, but that now are kind of intriguing to me. And then second, because of the connections that I was able to make with students, but also with other planners in the field who are maybe older, who might be good connections as I proceed through the RPP process. Or maybe if I'm ever looking to change the type of planning I'm in et cetera.
Lastly, do you have a message for the Ages Foundation, the funder of the travel awards program?
Emma Borho: I wanted to take the time to give a quick thank you to the Ages Foundation who funded my travel from Ontario to Edmonton for the CIP conference this year in 2024. The opportunity to travel to Edmonton was absolutely wonderful and it was greatly appreciated, especially as a grad student who is in a period of a bit of lower income during grad school, it was very, very helpful and it made my experience very enjoyable and perhaps a lot more feasible than without the funding. So, thank you so much Ages Foundation. I'm very thankful.
