What challenge were you facing when we started working together, and what has been the impact coaching thus far?
Laura Nicole Miller: The challenge I was facing when I started working with Amanda was that I was stuck. I was, there wasn't anything specifically not going well, but I felt like there was opportunity for things to go better and for me to get out of my own way, I just couldn't figure out how to do that. So working with her has given me not only the space and accountability to think about ways to do things differently, to think about things differently, to show up differently, but it's also given me a framework that helps me not to fall back into what I've learned for decades as uh the way to think about the circumstances that lead to my thoughts and my feelings and my actions and my results.
Could you describe a specific time how one of the strategies you learned was helpful?
Laura Nicole Miller: I'd say generally what's helped me the most is having a way to feel the way that I feel, whether that's positive and happy or it's overwhelmingly frustrated or sad, just being able to live in that moment. And to acknowledge that that is not necessarily a bad thing that it is a part of the human experience that has been really helpful. And so what I've been doing is when I get frustrated, instead of trying to escape that feeling, I'm able to think about the circumstances that lead to it. I'm able to, even in my head just think this is just a circumstance. I've my husband, you are a circumstance, you don't like that. But it helps to, to think about these, this framework for processing what's happening to you so that you can feel more in control and you can feel more empowered by what you are experiencing and understand that it's just a circumstance. And so the, I'd say specific times when the strategies have been helpful are when I'm feeling that for frustration. And I realized I need to just go be frustrated somewhere, whether that's on the treadmill or on a walk or going to target and listening to really loud music. I've done that more now, instead of trying to stop myself from feeling frustrated, I've just been frustrated. And so I feel like that was a strategy that Amanda taught me was more being presently in whatever I'm in and not being fine.
How would you say working with me is different from other products or services you have tried?
Laura Nicole Miller: Part of the difference with working with Amanda and using some of the other resources for self development and self reflection that I've used is that having her there to hold me accountable has been really great because I can even hear her voice in my head whenever I would be facing situations that previously I would have reacted to differently. But then I also think that part of it is that she's not trying to change you. She's not trying to tell you that what you're doing is wrong. She's just trying to get you to ask if what you're doing is serving you and you get to decide and then you get to decide if that's something you need to work on or not even today during our session, we were talking about something and I proposed it as something I needed to work on and she helped me to stop and think about it by saying, well, is it, is it something you need to work on or is it just, is, is it just a thing? She said it more eloquently than that? But having somebody to critically think and to push you to critically think rather than feeling like something is wrong, that you are wrong, that there's something for you to fix that has been really helpful. And then the fact that I, I just really appreciate it that she listened so well and remembered so well. Names people struggles. I've been having over the last couple of months. And so I, I think it's just that personalized experience and that coaching where she's really invested in you, but she's not taking over this process for you has been something I've really appreciated.
What would you say to someone who is interested in working with me but is looking for some reassurance that it will help?
Laura Nicole Miller: For those who are not completely sold on coaching as the solution to whatever they're facing right now, I would suggest that the fact that you are considering it, that you are going beyond your books and your podcasts and your whatever else you've used up until this point to explore this more accountable solution means that you probably could, could use it. And so that, that's really how I would reassure it is that you're thinking about this for a reason and something Amanda has taught me throughout this process is the truth, feels good and things that are not true do not feel good. And so if you are leaning toward working with someone working with a coach, working with someone like Amanda, in order for you to focus in and do some serious work on your thought process and the way that you're showing up, if that feels good when you're thinking about it, it's probably a good point for you to get, get going with that.
