Ramsey Khasho: Hey, everyone. I'm Doctor Ramsey Cho, psychologist and Chief clinical Officer at Children's Health Council. October is a DH D and Dyslexia Awareness Month. Did you know that one in five young people struggles with a DH D or learning difference like dyslexia? It's true. In fact, up to 50% of those young people also struggle with another challenge like anxiety or depression. Imagine this for a moment, you're a young person with a DH D or dyslexia, you're often told by the adults in your world to sit, still pay attention, read these three paragraphs in front of the entire class. You're also noticing in class that your peers are finishing quizzes and tests well before you do or it takes you twice as long to do your homework than it does your friends. That's really hard and can be really wearing and we see impacts to young people's self esteem and self worth. But there's hope with early diagnosis, intervention and remediation, we can help young people learn the skills to overcome their challenges and also lean into their unique abilities and strengths so that they can be successful in this world. Let's work together this month. And all year long to increase awareness of dyslexia and A DH D decrease the stigma and help create system change. That's more inclusive to young people who are neurodivergent and have learning differences. When we all work together, we can help young people meet their full promise and potential.
