Speaker: Lizette, Charles Butt Scholar, Our Lady of the Lake University

Why did you decide to become a teacher?

Lizette: The reason why I decided to become a teacher is because teaching it's all about the people. It's about building meaningful connections with your students, their families, and also with the community. Teaching is more than just learning, teaching is about helping the students figure out who they are, what they're capable of, and where life can take them. That's what teaching is to me.

What does the Charles Butt Scholarship mean to you?

Lizette: So what does the Charles Butt Scholarship mean to me? It's more than just financial support. It motivates me every day to keep on striving to be the best teacher I can be. It also allows me to achieve my dream of creating my classroom as inclusive, inspiring, and a supportive environment for all the students that I will be teaching.

What would you tell a prospective applicant about the Charles Butt Scholarship?

Lizette: If I could tell you something about the Charles Butt Scholarship, is that it's community is always positive and you're always surrounded by supportive future educators.
