Speaker: Jimena, Third-Grade Dual Language Teacher & Charles Butt Scholar Alum

What would you tell a prospective applicant about the Charles Butt Scholarship?

Jimena: I would tell a prospective applicant to go for it, to apply, because being chosen as a Charles Butt Scholar was one of the best things that happened to me. It opened the doors for new opportunities, new learning experiences. And I truly think it was thanks to the Charles Butt Scholarship that I was able to enter the field of education with a lot of background experience and knowledge that allowed me to be the best first-year teacher that I could possibly become. So, um to summarize, I would say go for it. Do it. Being a teacher is going to be one of the most rewarding experiences you'll ever have, and working with the Charles Butt Scholarship team is going to be just that amazing piece of support that you need, and that will allow you to continue growing.

What does the Charles Butt Scholarship mean to you?

Jimena: The Charles Butt Scholarship means so much to me. First, it was what allowed me to have all of my college expenses taken care of, but besides that, it allowed me to see how important being an educator is. I think it was one of those scholarships that truly made me feel like choosing to be a teacher was the best decision. I mentioned this a long time ago, but a lot of the times I used to see scholarships for engineers, for medical students, and this was the first time that I felt like teachers were really being chosen for something beautiful and important, and we were being highlighted and so to me it was what made me feel important and special and also allowed me to continue learning and discover new opportunities and new ways in which I could become the best teacher ever.
