Speaker: Sheron Royal-Campbell, Program Coordinator

What program did you pursue at Cestar College, and what did you like the most about it?

Sheron Royal-Campbell: My name is Sheron, and I was fortunate to pursue the program at Paralegal at the Cestar College. What I loved the most was during the pandemic period it really kept me occupied. Not only did it keep me occupied, but there was a sense of diligence. The information I attained was through not only educated professional teachers, but it was through the ideas of lawyers who actually had real life experience. And that was something I truly appreciated. Questions that were not so much a part of the curriculum were able to be answered and that was truly appreciated and the knowledge they exuded and the patience they demonstrated towards us was very valuable and life experiencing. So I truly appreciated that from the program and any concerns we had or I had, I had access to not only the school, not only to the professors, not only to the lecturers, but also to guests presenters and any questions we had were able to be answered at a particular time or, in a timely manner, and that is something I truly value because as a mature student, it wasn't so much to be taught, but was very, very important for me to be understood. And the mere fact that I was able to be understood, that was very, very valuable and important to me. Not only that, I'm a woman of culture and I'm a woman of certain form of education. So being able to sit in this forum, there was a demonstration of higher learning and that level of higher learning helped me to know that I was in the right place and it was a choice that I truly appreciated. Thank you.

What would you tell other students considering Cestar College?

Sheron Royal-Campbell: What I would tell other students about Cestar is the fact that if you had any concerns, you can definitely speak to the professors or the lecturers. Easy access is something else I would tell the students. The homework, if you had any questions, you had access through email and through phone calls. I think that was very important to me because while the professors, depending at the time, could not answer the questions right away, they would get back to you. And if they didn't get back to you, they would get back to you through different mediums. and one of them were emails and another one was through phone calls. So I was privileged to have that access and to have both of that. So I would tell students that they could be at ease and they could relax and and they could know even as, and I'm big on this idea of mature students because for me, we learned differently, for me, I had other responsibilities for me, I had a full time job. So I was doing this in a part-time capacity. So to be able to have access to someone there for me, learning as a mature student, was very, very important for me. So I want to say thank you. And that's what I would tell students. I would encourage students to be a part of that. That's what I would encourage students to be as it was really instrumental for me.

How has your career improved with Cestar College's education?

Sheron Royal-Campbell: I personally work as a Program Coordinator for two departments at a Community Health Centre. The knowledge that I have acquired through the legal program that I was privileged to be a part of with Cestar College has been instrumental in my understanding, not only with HR, but understanding my rights as a person, as a manager and not only that, understanding the rights of the employees to understanding contractual agreements, understanding whether it's through not-for-profit or whether it's through funders. Whether it's through working in private or public sector. The knowledge that I have acquired, I was able, and still is able, to practice and also implement in my day-to-day policies, regulations and program deliverables. And because of that, I am extremely grateful for the education that I acquired through this program. The added education that I have acquired through this program. So, it has been instrumental in the sense of topics such as ethics, competence, as in knowing what's a tort from what's not a tort. These topics and it's funny because when you're learning it, sometimes you don't know where to apply it at the time or sometimes the concept of it all is pretty new to you. But when you are finished and has gone through the program and is now working in another area and have to now practice, then everything has become more of a reality to you. And the learning that you have acquired has now become very fundamental and I am privileged to be a part of that process. So, my career has been improved in that respect, and I'm grateful for that.
