Speaker: Lizzie Siegle, Developer Evangelist, Twilio

Lizzie Siegle: Hi I'm Lizzy Siegle and I am a developer evangelist at a company called Twilio and I am based in san Francisco California.

How did you find CareerVillage?

Lizzie Siegle: I first heard about CareerVillage from my company, Twilio, who they give us opportunities to volunteer. And there's a website where we can sign up for different events in our communities, so in person, as well as virtual, online and privilege, was a virtual volunteer opportunity. And because I've had some great mentors in middle school, high school college and now as an adult working in the industry, I always enjoyed giving back in the same way that others have given to me.

What kind of student you were in high school ?

Lizzie Siegle: in high school, I was a goody two shoes I took, I believe nine AP classes in three years. I was in student government. I played three sports,

Lizzie Siegle: I had a job

Lizzie Siegle: I was also in marching band and I just really enjoyed trying a lot of different things and I did not get much sleep, which I don't always recommend, but I enjoyed my time in high school because of the activities I did

How did you decide on your career path?

Lizzie Siegle: I knew I wanted to be a middle school math teacher since roughly 5th Grade

Lizzie Siegle: So because I wanted to be a teacher, I was a tutor, I was a babysitter. I was a softball and baseball umpire. So I worked with kids a lot. I worked with people a lot and that did help me prepare, help prepare me to be a developer evangelist because as a developer evangelist, I still get to teach. I teach, developers, engineers, students, people under marketing and sales. So you never know where you will end up

Professional tip!

Lizzie Siegle: do things that are not explicitly in your job description. So even if your job does not say do X thing, if you think it would help people you work with, help customers be of assistance to your team or your manager, I do believe that you should still do it, and I think that helps you stand out, that shows taking initiative and critical thinking skills,
