Speaker: Talitha Agan, Program Manager, Focus on Prevention

Please introduce yourself and tell us about your current role.

Talitha Agan: Hello, my name is Talitha Agan and I am the Program Manager of a countywide initiative here in Stanislaus County, California. And that initiative is called Focus on Prevention.

How are you using what you’ve learned in your everyday work with families and/or within your organization?

Talitha Agan: I am using these great trainings and workshops on the Strengthening Families Framework and these five protective factors in my work with neighborhood groups here in Stanislaus County, California. I'm hoping to create a toolkit where each protective factor is explained and defined easily. And then examples of how they can be applied to neighborhood groups and the connections and resources and tool and links different things for them to utilize.

Please tell us about any specific success, improvement, or change your participation in CalTrin training helped you achieve and how.

Talitha Agan: I think a huge success that I've had with these trainings is just being able to actually save time. The amount of work that Jessica (Mattly) and CalTrin has done and getting the different resources available to be used, so you don't have to spend all day going out and looking at the various Center for Social Policy and Butterfly (Trainings that Transform) and all these different, Alliance (CTF), and looking at the resources, it's all done for you with great links and really it's very easy to follow along. And it is helping tremendously just knowing that once a month, I can hone in on a protective factor. I will have the links. They are helping me improve my toolkit a lot.

Have you encouraged colleagues from your organization or other family-serving professionals to participate in CalTrin training? If yes, why?

Talitha Agan: I share out all relevant CalTrin trainings to the neighborhood groups here in the County, and give them a heads-up when something looks like it will be utilized to help them with their programs and services and different things. And I've also now discovered other core training outside of these five protective factors that I'm able to help me with my work. The (CPP) Prevention Funding one, the Part 1 & Part 2, I did both of those and found that it is very helpful with just knowing the atmosphere of CalAIM and everything else. So I have encouraged a lot of people to also take part in these.

Is there anything else you would like to share with us?

Talitha Agan: I would just like to share that I love the easiness of these trainings, not only with registering, but the amount of information about them, during them, and even afterward. And how easy they are to follow along. I think Jessica (Mattly) does a fabulous job here, and I'm really looking forward to continuing with using this (CalTrin) as a resource to keep learning.
