Speaker: Kim K.
How has BossmakeHer changed your life?
Kim K.: BossmakeHer gave me incredible skills in go-to-market. I'd had these skills from a business perspective, but never thought about how to apply them to myself in my search and in my goals. In addition, I really gained confidence through action in developing the plan for network campaigning, developing a plan of creating community, and really using technology in a way that I never knew I could use previously. All of these skills made me ready to go out on my own and create my own business, which never would have been possible had I not embarked on this journey with BossmakeHer.
What part of the BossmakeHer program made the biggest difference for you, and why?
Kim K.: There are two parts of the BossmakeHer journey that really made a big difference for me. One was the cohort and the other women in this program. These women gave me energy and motivation and allowed me to give them energy and motivation during a really hard time. And I needed this community in order to sometimes just get up in the morning and take a step towards my future career goals. The other major part that really impacted my BossmakeHer journey was the work that I did from the network campaign. It wasn't just the campaign itself. It was creating a consistent way for me to reach out to my network, in addition to reaching out to new networks and creating new connections. It was about creating momentum that I didn't know how to create on my own.
What three words best describe BossmakeHer, and why?
Kim K.: The three words that I would use to describe BossmakeHer are community, process, and motivation. And the reason I would say that those are the words is that we had this community of women who are all in the same place. We created a process which I needed because if I don't have a clear action to take, it's going to be hard for me to motivate to do anything. And then because of that community, and because of that action and that process, motivation to keep going and getting up every day really became possible.
Based on your BMH experience, what advice would you give a friend who is navigating the job search process on her own?
Kim K.: To any friend that I have who is navigating a job search process on her own, I would say don't. I would say this is a really incredible time and it's incredible because anything is possible. And anything can happen. And also, it's really lonely and scary, and your confidence is shot. And to remotivate yourself and to push through those things, having a process in a community will make it possible. So don't go it alone.
