Speaker: Janielle Bertrand

How has BossmakeHer changed your life?

Janielle Bertrand: BossmakeHer changed my life from the very beginning. Investing in myself was not something that I would normally do. And so allowing myself to do that actually taught me to bet on myself and to see value. If I needed others to, then I needed to kind of bet on myself and see value in, in a different way. They helped me really see clearly. what I needed to do the work I needed to do to change my life.

What part of the BossmakeHer program made the biggest difference for you, and why?

Janielle Bertrand: So there's two parts of the program that really made the biggest difference for me. The first one was the healing and the emotional support. I left a job of two decades, angry and bitter and sad and terrified. And so the emotional support that I got from that helped me heal before even moving into the next stages. Uh The next was the market dominating position. I had zero idea of who I was. Um why I had a dominant position. If I had a dominant position, I knew from the very beginning that I felt like an impostor. But the kindred spirits that I ran into helped me also feel normal and not on my own and alone. So the emotional support helped me with all of that, hearing everybody's stories, understanding that um I wasn't alone in my thinking and in my journey and in my plight to find the right career path for myself and then really helping me define my market, dominant position. Um I've never done the work I had just kind of worked. And so it was invaluable to me to find that through my journey here

What three words best describe BossmakeHer, and why?

Janielle Bertrand: So the first word would be healing. I healed a lot from many, many years of a lot of things that we as women go through in corporate America in the world in general, just I healed a lot. So healing is one of them through the programs they offer. The next one is hard. It's really hard work to dig deep into yourself. And the seven layer dips and the things that you have to figure out that we do for so many people in our lives every day and in work and in corporations and that is brand ourselves. It's so hard. I spent my living, my whole life, branding events and companies and things and big ideas and I got lost in that. So it's really, really hard to brand yourself. Next one is really clarity. I came into this, wanting them to get me a job. That was the, the goal is that BossmakeHer is going to find me a job. But the clarity that I found, they really helped me find myself. And what did I want to do with 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14 hours a day. Clarity, healing, and it's hard.

Based on your BMH experience, what advice would you give a friend who is navigating the job search process on her own?

Janielle Bertrand: So I have a, a friend or two that is navigating this on their own. And the advice I always give is you should check into BossmakeHer and that is the truth. Navigating on it on your own is, is difficult. When that's not an option, it really is about finding clarity first. What do you want to do? Give yourself some space and a gap to define your next move. It's almost like a long marriage or a bad marriage and you exit. And the last thing you want to do is jump right back into another relationship without doing the work to figure out what the next right move is not just the next move. And so I do often talk to my friends about that. Is you've got to find yourself first. You've got to remember who you are without the baggage that you carry from your last experience. And if you can't do it on your own, then absolutely join a program like BossmakeHer because they've got the tools and the means and the support and the expertise to help you. But give yourself the space to heal to figure it out to find clarity and don't invite automatic no's into your life until you're clear on that. Those no's might actually be a gift.
