How has BossmakeHer changed your life?
BossmakeHer has been a truly transformational experience for me. I felt like I was stuck in so many aspects of my life, but career led the top of that list. I just knew that I was capable, that I am capable of so much more than what my current position was reflecting. I also wanted to be able to change industries potentially and just wasn't really sure how to make the leap. I had done a job change a few years earlier but didn't quite get the results that I was hoping for. And so this time I decided I was going to bet on myself and reviewed several different executive search coaches and ultimately felt like BossmakeHer was the best choice for me. A couple of reasons for that one was I liked the focus on women and the director level and above. I looked at some other coaches that seemed like they could help me get a job I was pretty sure I could get on my own. And so I really was wanting to make a substantial change and so felt like BossmakeHer was a really good fit. I like the idea of having a cohort and a larger group as well as more than just one person to interact with at BossmakeHer. And it was the first time I'd ever hired a coach of my own, I've had my corporations hire some in the past, without great results. And so, it was a big leap for me to decide to hire a place like BossmakeHer. But again, I just felt like I was capable of more and it was time for me to bet on me. The process has been nothing sort of transformational. My story ended up with a little bit of a plot twist that I wasn't expecting. I thought I was just joining BossmakeHer to find a new job. Instead, I embarked on what became an almost year long personal transformation process that has been nothing short of truly spectacular and so much of it was just on how I viewed myself and the world around me and my own communication skills and my own willingness to again bet on me and how I was going to interact with the world around me. And so much of the inspiration from the cohort, the inspiration from Nikki, the assistance from Audra, but also the outside speakers, Micky Teresa Lisa really helped give me bread crumbs of where I needed to go next in my own journey and gave me enough information to continue to move forward. Interestingly enough in a plot twist, just as I was negotiating with a new firm, that was a significant leap up, which of course was what I was looking for, my existing firm realized I was getting ready to leave and asked what they could do to keep me. I handed them a very long and expensive wish list and to my shock, they came back and granted all of it, which included additional staff, which was the crux of what I wanted to begin with, but also a raise for my team, a 50% raise for me with a third more PTO time as well. And without BossmakeHer, I would have been happy if they had just added a staff member a year ago and that would have been sufficient. And so I'm excited about the journey I'm embarking on. I'm staying with my existing firm also lets me continue to explore my entrepreneurial ventures on which I am very engaged. And so this really is the best possible outcome. In the end, nothing changed, but yet everything changed and it only changed after I changed. And BossmakeHer was instrumental in helping me just make the shifts and and have the knowledge to be able to transform in ways that were significant and important to me.
What part of the BossmakeHer program made the biggest difference for you, and why?
The biggest thing for me with BossmakeHer was not any one thing, but it was the mixture of everything. So the sense of context from Nikki, the sense of what the job market was doing as a whole, the cohort and the brilliance of the women I was around. But also then the intensely practical steps. I'm in marketing. I thought I knew how to write an executive resume and LinkedIn profile. I didn't. And so having the assistance of Audra and Nikki in not only better telling my story, but also in shaping my story to clearly define what I bring to the table was so helpful. The transformational process with your market defining proposition with Ang was just life changing for me. And so that process was intensely both inspirational and practical. The practicality of the networking campaign. I'm old enough that I don't know how to network on LinkedIn. So being able to have somebody walk me through it, step by step. And then the outside speakers for me were truly life changing. Mickey Teresa Lisa all just provided wisdom that I needed in my life at that moment and gave me breadcrumbs as to how to continue to move forward. And that was incredibly important for me.
What three words best describe BossmakeHer, and why?
My three words about BossmakeHer are inspirational. All of the women and the team inspire you to expect more from yourself and the world around you. It was transformational for me. It was truly a personal transformation journey. It was so much more than just a job search. But yet at the same time, it was also intensely practical step by step. Even if I wasn't sure of how to do everything, I didn't have to. I knew how to do the next step based on the coaching received. And so that was incredibly helpful.
Based on your BMH experience, what advice would you give a friend who is navigating the job search process on her own?
If I had a friend going through the process, what would my recommendations be? It's funny that you should ask that because I have a college age son who is in his senior year. And so we are starting to apply a lot of the practical steps and the concepts that I have learned from BossmakeHer. So my son is now working on his MD P, which is a little bit harder when you're a college student, but still what makes him unique, what makes his core values the same, we're using that as a family now. But at the same time, I have found the guidance, so exceptionally helpful that I am now researching search coaches for recent college grads.
And so if I had a friend going through this process, certainly there are some things you can do on your own, but I also would highly recommend BossmakeHer. Well, I ended up staying with the same job. This was an investment in myself that has already paid for itself many times over again. I picked up a 50% raise. But even the process was well worth everything that I invested into it. And so I would highly recommend working with BossmakeHer. Thank you for all you've done in my life. You've really made a difference and I can't wait to see where I and my family goes from here.
