Speaker: Eileen Owen
How has BossmakeHer changed your life?
Eileen Owen: When I came to BossmakeHer, I was struggling with what I wanted from my career. I was in a job that was extremely toxic. I would feel unappreciated, passed on for promotions and bonuses that I knew I deserved.
Eileen Owen: I was the only woman at my level in a male dominated industry and I was approaching burnout and you know what, no one cared.
Eileen Owen: So I wanted something different and for the first time in my career, I put myself first and signed up for BossmakeHer. The program helped me gain clarity on what I wanted, what I actually brought to an organization and what my true success story was.
Eileen Owen: It helped me identify what I wanted and the jobs that I wanted
Eileen Owen: It really truly helped me feel and believe and trust in my success and that I'm worthy of new beginnings in an organization that appreciated me. So trust in the process, BossmakeHer is there to help you find your success story. So you can also find that organization that truly appreciates you and what you can bring to it.
What part of the BossmakeHer program made the biggest difference for you, and why?
Eileen Owen: The parts of BossmakeHer that I think made the biggest difference to me was the community and the coaches.
Eileen Owen: The community helped me feel not alone in my struggles and supported me to gain confidence. The coaches were really there to help me clean up my success story so that it sounded clear and concise and truly brought my authentic self and what I wanted out of a career forward. So I think what really made the biggest difference to me was clarity. Getting a clear understanding of what I wanted and how I gained that. So the meetings were great. Listening to other people and their struggles and how that related to me really did help quite a bit. Having access to the coaches in meetings so that I could ask questions and get follow up and further get clarity on what I truly wanted. I think that's what was the most helpful to me and then all that polishing that the coaches help you with, cleaning up your resume, your LinkedIn, helping you with that introduction, how to respond to interview questions and how to identify those jobs that you wanted, those eliminating out the red flags that you should identify through a review of a role or talking to a recruiter about it. And so that's what I found made the big difference for me.
What three words best describe BossmakeHer, and why?
Eileen Owen: Three words I would use to describe BossmakeHer clarity, branding, and success. You need clarity to understand what you want out of your career path. And BossmakeHer helps you identify that. Branding because you need a very clean presentation to brand yourself in a way that speaks to recruiters and companies on what you can bring to an organization. And success because you need to identify your success story. And BossmakeHer helps you define what your success story is and how to communicate it in the best way possible.
Based on your BMH experience, what advice would you give a friend who is navigating the job search process on her own?
Eileen Owen: What advice would I give to a friend who's navigating the job search process on their own? I would say, have you identified what you truly want out of a career? And that's what I would do first. And if you haven't done that first and you're just applying to all the jobs out there that you see that sound like the correct level that you're looking for, the right pay that you're looking for, you may be missing opportunities that truly align with what you wanna do and your career path. BossmakeHer helped me with that.
