Speaker: David Baker, Chief Information Security Officer, Volunteer Bank
What factors impacted your bank's decision to switch to .Bank?
David Baker: Well, for me, it's about adding one more incremental security layer to our overall security strategy. The requirements for registering and maintaining a .Bank domain name, establish some credibility. And for the bank, we were already planning a brand refresh project. So moving to a .Bank domain name laid nicely right into that project.
What does the switch to .Bank mean to your bank?
David Baker: Well, I would say it means quite a bit. I mean, you always want to have credibility with your customers, you want them to trust you. And any step that we can take along the way to try to, foster that and maintain that and give credibility to how we're trying to protect their information, then I think that's a good thing, and this is just a step in that direction.
What is your advice to banks considering the switch to .Bank?
David Baker: My advice, well, my advice is to make the switch. move in that direction, I would say that the technical implementation of it is nowhere near as complicated, as you might think it's going to be. But the benefit is certainly there. I would say that you need to have someone who understands DNS so that SPF, DKIM, and DMARC can all be configured properly. But I think overall we have a larger responsibility to our communities. To our customers, to the financial sector as a whole, to combat a lot of the threats that happen, to be delivered through email, and I think this is one way, just one step that we can take towards, a more secure way of communicating.
