Speaker: Yazmine, L&D Advisor
Yazmine: Hi, my name is Yasmin and I am a learning and development advisor for a solicitors.
Which course did you study and why did you choose Avado?
Yazmine: So I am currently studying the level five organizational learning development through Avado. And the course was actually recommended to me by a fellow hr colleague who'd done the level five for hr qualification a couple of years back. And that was via A V. The main things that she actually highlighted that really stood out to me was the fact that the tutors were really supportive. And despite it being a distance learning course, there was a lot of support available that the platform had tons of content and that was something that really stood out to me, particularly against all the other providers. So that's why I chose the course has definitely met my expectations. A lot of it includes hard work. But I think the fact that is so receptive and supportive, being able to put yourself on to cohort cafes, which basically is a format where you can ask your tutor questions in a live format and obviously be able to watch it as well at a later date if you miss the session or if you want to refer back to it, which is integral to when you're writing your assessments. And I just find it a really, really useful format considering it is distance learning.
What is the most valuable skill you acquired on the course?
Yazmine: So I think the most valuable skill that I've acquired since taking this course is definitely an enhancement of my patience. That sounds probably really cliche. But in actuality, when I first started this course, I kind of had this expectation that I was just going to smash everything at the park really quickly. But it was a new style of writing for me as a new style of learning something I wasn't used to. And I got a little bit frustrated when I didn't pass my first assessment, for example. And I kind of didn't understand why. Um I just needed to be a little bit more patient with myself and actually that it's ok to take a little bit more time and it's OK to just kind of ease it and get used to new things. And I found that the feedback was very constructive after my first submission. And then I was able to pass there after that and it just really, really valuable feedback and allowed me to kind of just be a little bit more patient with myself, my learning styles and also be able to bring that into the workplace
Have you been able to apply your learning at work?
Yazmine: I think sometimes when you've been in the world of work, you could become so used to things, it becomes like a second language. And I know that obviously I've still got quite a way to go my course. But the first week were modules have been specifically to hr and organizations and their structures. So for me, that was really interesting to understand what an organizational structure is and how they can vary from different companies. What works best depending on size. I think that that was just something that's quite staple in terms of businesses and how companies work and yet it was something that I hadn't really thought about. So something like that was really useful in order for me to understand my company more and what works in terms of structure and culture.
What support or resources did you find most beneficial during the course?
Yazmine: Something that I find really useful has been the cohort cafes mature support sessions. For me personally, my circumstances don't always allow me to attend these sessions live. So actually having the option to put yourself on to one and then receive a recorded version afterwards, it allows you to see kind of what your peers on the same course of thinking. If they may be stuck on the same question as you, it's quite nice to have that kind of understanding and then you can break it down, the, breaks it down and then there's kind of peer support as well. Um For me personally having those recording sessions to then look back on as well. When I'm kind of nearing assessment submission, it's just really, really useful because sometimes if even if you're on that session, you can't retain everything that was spoken about. So that for me has been definitely integral to my understanding and my learning journey on the course.
What advice would you give to someone exploring CIPD training options?
Yazmine: My advice would be, don't underestimate how much work it's going to be. There is a lot involved, although the distance learning format definitely gives you that time back and you get to manage when you study what days you're going to kind of commit to studying and it is very flexible. However, there are deadlines in place which I find really useful because you know exactly when your hard stop is at the end of the course. And so I just say we have all the options, make sure you choose the right level for you and obviously your future career aspirations, that's really important. But I would definitely recommend looking at A V the format is fantastic and you really just need to kind of look at the commitment in its entirety and what's going to work for you in your circumstances.
What has been the impact of completing this qualification on your career?
Yazmine: So, although I haven't yet completed my qualification and I'm still throws of the course for me personally, I just really wanted to polish off my understanding of hr and organizational learning. I'm really excited to get some further skills and knowledge on organizational learning and development and what that looks like in terms of digital design. So I'm really excited, I'm really keen to inject that into my learning development, design and delivery and I think it'll be fantastic.
