Speaker: Joshua, Chicago 8 Years

Describe how 5 (five) years without a raise or improvements in our contract have affected you personally.

Joshua: Hi, my name is Josh. I'm an American Airlines flight attendant based in Chicago for the last eight years. Now, if there's one thing that working through COVID has taught me, it's that we are a resilient work group, we can take a beating and keep a smile on our face. We're also an educated work group. Many of us have student loan debt in many ways. We are one big family, but so many of us have small Children and dependents that we care for and we love to travel. Don't get me wrong, but there's nothing like coming home. Many of us have mortgages and increasingly higher rent to pay and we do get a paycheck, but with 20% inflation across the country and not getting a raise for the last five years, many of us are only paying the interest on borrowed money, placing some of life's essentials on credit. And despite having our lives and the lives of those closest to us being put at risk the entire time, we work through a global pandemic. American Airlines forces us to decide between feeding our kids or paying the rent, filing for bankruptcy or taking our own lives. With the rise in our industry of suicide, bankruptcy, homelessness and hunger. You have to ask American Airlines, have you forgotten us? Because we will remember.
