What brought you to Arise Functional Health?

What were some of your concerns or struggles?

My name is Macy Winkle and um we've been seeing Doctor Garrett for um about 8 months now. And um we first started here, um, back in October, we received an educational um diagnosis of dyslexia and dysgraphia, and, um, We noticed that, you know, Lawson had always had some just like the emotions and um a lot of what felt like kind of like fight or flight. And um you know, we address things from like a behavioral standpoint and from, you know, just parenting and different things like that. And um so once we received that diagnosis, we um also were reading through his report and saw that the occupational therapist listed. That there were primitive reflexes that had been retained. And so I um started doing some research about that and, um, found, um, some places that worked on that and what exercises and things like that. Why it was down a rabbit hole on social media and, um, found some places, um, that would work on that from a more like holistic standpoint and, um, so I found a place, um. In Texas, but it was not local. And so I reached out to them and asked if there was anywhere that they knew in the DFW area and they recommended um Arise. And so, um, we came here and got an initial evaluation and um it was really interesting hearing about the primitive reflexes and kind of the, um, what kind of happens or what we could see if those are um retained. And so, um. We, um, noticed things like that. We didn't know her from the primitive reflexes, like he was still wetting the bed occasionally. And um we had a lot of like, he was doing tons of like nail biting and like just, um, different things like some of his fight or flight um now that we know was kind of because of that.

How is Arise Functional Health Different?

So with some of the um primitive reflexes, um, and along with some of the other things that he found, we began doing um some exercises at home and then um Lawson came once a week um for an hour and um we And to kind of put some of the pieces together in terms of realizing how the vestibular system and things of that nature play into some of the like issues that we were having. So like Lawson was in baseball and he was doing swim lessons and those things were really hard for him and he was really frustrated. All the time with them. And so we kind of learned that, you know, hitting the ball and crossing the midline and making contact with the ball was really hard for him because he had two deficits in, in some of those skills. And same with swimming, like laying on his back, like some of the reflexes that, um, contributed to that. Like it was causing him a lot of anxiety. Um, and So as we worked on those, those things got better, which has been really neat. And so, um, we have been coming weekly and um Lawson's uh reflexes have been integrated, um, through exercises at home and then our work here.

What Life Changing Results have you seen?

What Life-long Impactful changes have you seen?

changes we've seen over time have been just, um, Lawson's ability to, um, Regulate his emotions, um, just kind of getting out of that constant state of fight or flight, not just having really big reactions to like really small things. Um, and then just like the simple things like we're not seeing him biting his nails anymore with some of that anxiety, um, it's decreased and then he has not had a bad accident at nighttime, like he's not the bed in in 8 months. So that, um, was really nice. Um, and then just things like he's more confident and like he started playing basketball, so his hand eye coordination and his ability to track the ball with basketball and baseball has um increased um and as well as his confidence with that and then. Ability to kind of lay on his back, um, and like swimming and even

Final Thoughts

Any last remarks or words of encouragement for other families?

you know, kind of coming to Doctor Garrett has really been just such a huge impact on our family, um, just having the support and knowing that, you know, we exhausted so many options like we tried things from a behavioral standpoint, we tried things from like medically like we don't know what's going on here. Why is he still doing this, um, but just knowing like some of the root causes and just knowing that we can help, um, from like a neurological standpoint and like holistic. medication and things of that nature, um, we just feel really thankful, um, that we've, um, found, um, Arise and that we, um, are able to, um, just kind of bring things to the table. So like if from week to week if things change we're able to. To say, hey, we noticed this with Laws and like, do you think this has something to do with, with, um, anything that you guys are working on and um that constant feedback, um, has been really helpful. So we're just really thankful to have them a part of our family and just the impact that they made is lasting so we're really thankful.
