Tell us a little bit about yourself

Verne : My name is Laverne Gaddy. I'm, I was born July the 13th, 1943. I'll be 81 years old in July. My hobbies are hockey. I'm quite involved in junior hockey. I love to fish, hunt, and I collect firearms. I live here in Binbrook my whole life.

Tell us about your diagnosis

Verne : So after I had pneumonia, I came to see Doctor Juriansz and he put me on some antibiotics to get me past the pneumonia. And he also set me up with an appointment to see a fellow by the name of David, a Respirologist (*Respiratory Therapist) I came to see David and he explained to me that my breathing was low, it wasn't normal. And so he put me on a, a prescription to help me with the breathing. When I first started to take this, I took the prescription intermittently because it, I didn't really believe it was helping me a lot. But it was soon to realize that the more I used it, the better my breathing was. And then I came to see David again. And after looking at my, my uh statistics on my breathing, he showed me how it had improved. And today I use that prescription faithfully every morning and my breathing, I understand was subpar and I understand now that my breathing is getting up closer to where it should be for a person my age. So because of what David did for me and my believing, excuse me. But my believing in him my breathing has improved and this has helped me immensely.

How has your life changed since your diagnosis?

Verne : I've always been, a fairly active person. I've, like to fish. I like the outdoors. I, I really enjoy a lot of things and I'm, I, I traveled a little bit and after coming to see David, I find now that I like to travel even more. I want to do more. And I, recently this past January, I spent a week in Aruba and I came home from there and there was a few things I wanted to see in Las Vegas. Now, Las Vegas is well spread out. And so my wife and I calculated the steps that we took and we were in Vegas for seven days and we walked a total of 59 miles and, it doesn't stop there and tomorrow I'm leaving for Nashville and I've got two fishing trips planned this summer. So my whole life has changed around. It's, it's allowed me to go back and do the things that I want to do. I love to travel. I love to see things go places. And when I went to, to, Las Vegas, I even spent time at the Grand Canyon. I went to see the hockey game the Golden Knights play. We went to see Cirque Soleil. I was in the big Ferris Wheel down there and these are things that I wouldn't have even considered doing before because I was getting very tired very easily. And now I think I'm back on track again.

How has Best Care impacted your life?

Verne : The biggest, the biggest thing that's changed for me is my ability to be involved in things. And when I came to see David, it's like trusting your family doctor or your family physician. I finally learned that if I listen to him, he's gonna help me and it's with his help that I'm able to do the things that I do and I'm able to look forward to doing additional things. And before I met David, it was keeping me busy, finding the energy to work with my hockey team. Now I'm looking for, for more work. So I, I think it's a plus plus for everybody. And I have to say thank you to David for the guidance that he had given me. And I have a lot of trust with him too.

Do you have a message for others about the Best Care program?

Verne : The best way that I can answer the the three questions that were there and send three messages out to whoever wants to listen to it. If you want, help, reach out, there's help there for you. The help that's been given to me has completely changed my life. And if you listen to the people that have the knowledge of how to help you and trust in them, you'll be better off work. And I think I'm a prime example of what has happened since I met David. Thank you.
