Speaker: Salome
Tell us a little bit about yourself
Salome: Hello. My name is Salome. I'm 51 years old. I'm a stay at home mom. I have a family who married with four Children that are adults now. I have lots of interests. I go to church. I, read, I like to cook. I like to bake. I like to sew and do lots of different things like that.
Tell us about your diagnosis
Salome: When I was diagnosed, I was more recently in this last year. I had asthma as a child and I was told I was, had grown out of it and I was taken off all medication. So I had, over the years, mentioned it to different doctors and tried to say that I still had a problem but it wasn't, taken seriously. I had a doctor who had a older, mindset that people can grow out of it. And I was never tested again until this last year because of, some... because of some health conditions. And then when I was retested, I was found that I had asthma.
How has your life changed since your diagnosis?
Salome: How my life has changed since the diagnosis is because I realized that yes, there was something wrong that I did know and that I had to as a patient and as it was my life and my health care, I had to push to see someone who would actually take it seriously and put me through the proper panel so that I could get tested. And that has been very valuable to me.
How has Best Care impacted your life?
Salome: Being involved with Best Care has been instrumental for me because I was given tools and booklets that I was able to learn what my triggers were, what I should be doing, what I should be avoiding. But also I was given the paperwork that I would a I was able to take it home and share it with family so that everybody knew and everybody was on the same page without me having to try to figure out how to communicate things to them. And it gave us the lengths of where we could look to learn more. And it's been a huge difference for me. I did not sleep through the night for years and I'm able to, now. I have more energy. I have more ability to do things that I had stopped doing. And I didn't realize how much of a toll that they've taken all my life. But I'm very thankful to the care that I have received with Best Care that I'm able to do and change and do things that I did when I was younger. And I feel much younger too.
Do you have a message for others about the Best Care program?
Salome: Message that I have for doctors regarding Best Care is to take people seriously when they're talking about their, their challenges that they have and also to put them through the paces of having the test done so that they can know and you can know what the best route of care for them is. And also for, for politicians to make this program more well known so that people can access it easier and to be able to have that quality of life because it really does make a big difference and it makes people feel younger, it makes them be able to have a better quality of life and it's a great program to be in and it makes a lot of change and a lot of difference for a lot of people.
