Tell us a little bit about yourself
Marlies: My name is Marlise. I am 76 years old. I had an occupation as a hairstylist for over 50 years. I have no children of my own. I am married and I love to cook and take care of things for people.
Tell us about your diagnosis
Marlies: When did I know something was wrong? When I could not breathe, I could not walk properly without sitting down and taking deep breaths. I used to have to use anything to make my lungs get a little bit easier. And, at the time, I, I was suffering quite a bit with it actually.
How has Best Care impacted your life?
Marlies: How did my life change? It changed tremendously. I can walk places. I can do cleaning. I can go shopping at a grocery store and not have to sit on a bench every two minutes. It has, it's given me a lot of energy and I, I, I just have to say it's improved my condition for me 100%.
Marlies: It's given me a lot of, a lot more, self-awareness and it, has become a very important part of my life because I do trust my educator, to tell me what I have to do to take care of myself, which I am very, very diligent about. And I've learned many, many things from her to help me get through every day.
Do you have a message for others about the Best Care program?
Marlies: Personally, I think everybody that has a problem breathing or anybody that does also smoke or has asthma problems should definitely join or, arrange to have someone in Best Care because they are the ones that will do the best for you to help you get through the problems that you might have. And, will give you a lot of support to, how would you say it, encourage you to do the best for yourself to get better.
