Speaker: Carol and Charlie
Tell us a little bit about yourselves
Carol and Charlie : Hi, I'm Carol and I'm 74 and I'm married to Charlie and he's 75. We're both retired and there's just the two of us at home. We like to do, gardening. He likes woodworking, um Reading. Let's see, crafts. I like crafts. So we, we enjoy a lot of different things. Some, physical, some not. Netflix, movies.
Tell us about your diagnosis
Carol and Charlie : I got diagnosed probably, maybe 15, 20 years ago. And I, I was a smoker but I've, I've quit now since probably 5, 6 years. Thank goodness that's when I realized my breathing, was being affected. But in our day we were never taught not to smoke because all the relatives did smoke. So, it just came with the territory, I guess. Now they teach you different, which is very good.
Carol and Charlie : Ok. I noticed something wrong when I couldn't catch my breath any little bit of activity, I'd be instantly out of breath. I guess it was fairly easy to get diagnosed after I, but protesting and whatever and, I was eventually told that it was, COPD which I didn't know what was at the time but certainly do now.
How has your life changed since your diagnosis?
Carol and Charlie : Ok. Ok. Since, since, since all this started I can't do stuff that I used to be able to do, cut the grass, any, any sort of physical physical activity. I'd be instantly out of breath and taking out the, taking out the garbage. I'd have to stop and catch my breath. Yeah, you're still doing that. Still do. Yeah. What about you, Carol? Yeah, I, I'm, can do more physical things than Charlie. Thank goodness that one of us can. But, and he helps when he can, he, when he can, but it's basically, mostly on, on me because of his diagnosis, which is worse than mine. We both got damaged but his is worse than mine.
How has Best Care impacted your life?
Carol and Charlie : OK. Our educator has made a big, big, big difference, explaining stuff and understanding for us to understand, understanding stuff, answered all the questions, answered all the questions. Yeah, she's very good. She's good. Yeah, we understand it and we've learned a lot.
Do you have a message for others about the Best Care program?
Carol and Charlie : Yeah. I would say that anybody with CO with COPD that's not in Best Care, should go see a doctor and, and hopefully the doctor can make an appointment, sign it up for Best Care because like, like the name says Best Care. Oh yeah. And as far as the politicians go, I think, but you said it best, I just say for Best Care, I think there should be an ad on TV because the program is very good. Just like they have the, the the ad for a vote, have a vote, have a commercial for Best Care because seniors and others that can't breathe need this program very much because it's, it helps us a lot. That's all about. All I can say is it's good and our therapist is great. I have no complaints about that at all and I don't think you do. We enjoy coming here and she's helped us a lot to be able to live the best life we can at this stage of the game, how old we are and we're just happy that she can help us. Right? Sounds good. Yeah, that's what I think too. So.
