Tell us a little bit about yourself
Kerri: Hi, my name is Kerri. I'm going to be 69 this year and I, my family, my mom and dad have passed, I have three brothers. My interests are crocheting, plastic canvas, Bengal with the seniors.
Tell us about your diagnosis
Kerri: I was born with breathing problems with asthma. And that, and, back then when I was younger, no one knew about it. And the doctors did the best they could. But when I was working at the factory I did my best and, but the smoke, they're smoking, that was, they were doing there. I was the only one that didn't smoke at the factory but the dust and the dirt and the parts that we were packing didn't help. My brothers, they
How has your life changed since your diagnosis?
Kerri: Ok. The challenges I, I face now I can't do, like I used to, I can't go out and enjoy the nice weather because I have to be careful. I definitely do not go out and shovel snow. The breathing can get pretty bad at times. I used to go for a lot of walks. I don't do that anymore because of the issue and I've accepted it. It hurts, granted, it hurts because I had to change my whole life over and it just, it is what it is and people have to realize that's the way it is.
How has Best Care impacted your life?
Kerri: OK, this service that I've been with for 10 years, they are awesome. They're respiratory angels. All of them. I wouldn't be where I am today without them. They are super. They're just, I can't think of and there's a lot of words I could use. I, I love them. I love the fact that my doctor got me involved into it and I appreciate everyone and everything that they've done for me. They've made a difference in my life like you wouldn't believe.
Kerri: They've taught me about how to use my puffers. They've shown me, they have, they just, they work with me, which is good and I appreciate that. I just, I didn't realize how to use the puffers until they showed me. And they're, they're awesome.
Do you have a message for others about the Best Care program?
Kerri: OK, I have a message for the politicians in Canada. This service will benefit a lot of people and you don't realize how many people it will benefit. And I just, I can't stress it enough. It has to be for everyone that needs it. You have to go through what we go through. You have to understand what the people that give the service, what they go through. They worry about everyone. And I'm telling you, if you go through everything that we've gone through and they've gone through with us, you will realize that this has to go farther than it is right now. Don't waste any time. You can't waste any time. People have to have help.
