Tell us about yourself
Dr. Ravinder Ohson : I'm, uh Ravinder Rosen. I'm a family doctor in Hamilton. I've been here since 1990 initially working as an emerged doc and five years after that started primary care period. So I would imagine that I'm probably one of the senior members in family medicine and.
How has Best Care impacted your patients?
Dr. Ravinder Ohson : So this is Amigo. My dog today is Wednesday. I'm here just to catch up on stuff and he tends to hang out with me. But uh best care has been really the best kind as they say in Newfoundland. Um I did work there for a period of time. Best care, what it did for me was that uh we made actually a list of all my patients who had anything to do with asthma COPD, respiratory chronic issues, things that had not been defined. So they all got a all the patients got a chance to meet my therapist, my respiratory therapist and she would go through more detailed history with them, going through pulmonary function test, categorizing their issues a little better, suggesting a therapy, modifying therapy or making adjustments in the way they were using the inhalers. And also the best thing also was the fact that they were getting followed up. And most of the time what really happened was that uh uh they really did not need to see me more, you know, on a regular basis. Other than the fact that they were followed up by uh the respiratory therapist at best care So I think it did improve immensely the quality of care that we were providing for people with chronic respiratory problems. Um I would highly recommend this to any of the primary care physicians um who would like to improve the quality of care for their chronic respiratory patients.
How has Best Care impacted your practice?
Dr. Ravinder Ohson : All right. Uh Zam me go again. Um Really, I think the quality of the care, as I already said, quality of care when it comes to respiratory problems that really improved substantially. Um It did open up some spots for me on the daily basis. Uh All the patients with the chronic ongoing respiratory issues were being followed by best care rather than myself. And I think uh that did improve the quality overall as well as um reduce my wait times. My wait times weren't bad anyway. So we had a lot more openings on a daily basis uh where patients could be accommodated. So I think the other thing that did happen was updated guidelines were introduced into the practice and that of course helped me also stay on on top of it. Um as well as the numerous uh the plethora of choices that we have now treating respiratory problems. Uh So staying on top of that, that was another thing that I found uh that I was much better at
Do you have a message for others about the Best Care program?
Dr. Ravinder Ohson : I think um I mean, I I would really suggest that for any of you who have not adopted uh best care yet, uh do look into this. Uh not only will it free up time for you, but more importantly, the quality of care that uh is delivered through the primary care office is improved. Period. You all actually, you know, it's kind of tough to get uh some of the testing done appropriately or quickly enough. Um And with the help of best care, I think that I've been able to deliver high quality care to my patients who need um who who basically need a proper follow up proper guidance and have somebody who can spend a bit of time, quite a bit of time with them, guiding them through all the aspects of respiratory care, including help with, with smoking on to help with appropriate inhalers as well as how to use it. So even for the policymakers, I think this really has been a cost effective delivery of care.
