Speaker: Judy Thomas, Assistant Professor; Courage

Your Name, what brought you to Regis

Judy Thomas: My name is Judy Thomas. I am an alum and a faculty member. I came to Regis as an adult learner to finally finish my bachelor's degree to fulfill that one of these days, I will finish my degree.

Chose a word to describe yourself. (e.g., innovator, leader, immigrant, etc.) Why did you choose this word?

Judy Thomas: My word is courage. My twin sister and I were adopted when we were two. I grew up in a traditional Japanese and a rigid military household growing up. We thought that we would never quite measure up, that we weren't good enough. We felt that we never quite fit in anywhere. Girls don't go to college, they get married and have babies. My dad would always say you have to understand that your mom is just not like everyone else's mom, but I would have given for her to be like everyone else's mom in time. Courage taught me that it didn't really matter whether I fit in or not. Bravery in the face of fear makes things possible. I don't have to be like everyone else to be good enough.

How does that word fit with your experience at Anderson College of Business and Computing?

Judy Thomas: Courage means that I'm willing to learn, listen, lead and challenge myself. These are some of the cornerstones of Anderson College, the Anderson College. Let me bravely go where no one has gone before, through what I learned and what I do. I open myself up to the possibilities and belong.
