Speaker: Yuan Zhang, Associate Professor, University of Massachusetts Lowell

Yuan Zhang: My name is Yuan Zheng I completed my nursing PhD in 2013 followed by brief period of post-doctoral work in public health, I became a nursing faculty member. Currently I hold the position of associate professor at the Solomont School of Nursing at the University of Massachusetts Lowell

Yuan Zhang: I am very thankful to the ANAMASS for honoring me with the excellence in nursing research award. This recognition serves as a great encouragement to me.

Yuan Zhang: I have a great passion and enthusiasm for nursing research. My program for research aims to address the broad issue of occupational health and safety with a special focus on improving the sleep, musculoskeletal and mental health of our healthcare workers. With this research award, I'm now fully charged to continue growing my research program to promote the safety and health of our healthcare workers, which in turn will improve the quality of patient care as well as patient safety and health. I'm committed to sustaining my program of research and the mentoring more nursing students in research which will shape our next generation of nurse leaders through research programs.

Yuan Zhang: I'm very thankful to my colleague, Dr Mazen El Ghaziri, Ph.D., who nominated me for this research award. I also want to express my sincere thanks to two of my great research mentors. First is Doctor Jane Duffy, who is a professor of Medicine from Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School for her her mentorship to me on the circadian rhythm sleep disorders. And Dr Laura Punnet, ScD who is the principal investigator and Center CoDirector for CPH-NEW [Center for the Promotion of Health in the New England Workplace], which is a Total Worker Health® Center funded by NIOSH Excellence, funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health She has mentored me through my research journey in the research on occupational safety and health.
