Speaker: Zanna Kruoch, O.D., Faculty & Student Membership Liaisons Committee
Zanna Kruoch, O.D.: I am here to answer this question of what I hope that we can accomplish in this profession of optometry in 2024. And one of the things that I really hope, especially here in Utah, is that we can expand our scope. I know that we have several states in the past couple of years who have been able to expand scope, start doing lasers, and I'm really hoping that all the states can start following suit and that will be such an amazing thing because that means we can start taking care of our patients to the fullest capacity and do great things as optometrists.
Zanna Kruoch, O.D.: So I wanted to point out here that I am an optometric educator. I've been teaching optometry students for the past several years. And as an educator, my goal is to make sure that my students can take care of their future patients, right? And I think that we all have that goal as physicians, as optometric physicians, as educators. And I think the important thing about volunteering is that we set an example and by us, by us setting an example we can show to our patients and our students that we can take care of each other, that we can collaborate and that we can do great things as a group and as a community. And I think that's the reason why, at least for me, why it's so important to volunteer because when you get these great minds together, we can do a lot of things and accomplish great things and all our goals, especially in optometry.
