Speaker: Gabrielle Boyd, O.D.

Gabrielle Boyd, O.D.: The Leadership Institute has been such a great tool in improving my communication skills, especially among my OD and MD colleagues. Thanks to our courses and words of advice from fellow institute students, I'm able to better prepare for important discussions, negotiations, and potential conflicts. I've also learned that I am not alone. Many others all across the country have experienced this. Same or similar trials and events that I'm experiencing or have experienced, and my fellow ODs have been fantastic at offering their ideas or trials and errors in those same situations. Simply growing my network of colleagues makes all those late night Zoom calls, um, and every single ounce of the leadership institute worth it.

Gabrielle Boyd, O.D.: What's crazy is I always thought I was pretty good at leadership or at least dealing with certain situations or my colleagues or negotiations or discussions, um, but I've learned that sometimes my ideas aren't really the best way to go about things, um. So learning from my colleagues' experiences and listening to their words of advice has really helped me evaluate myself. So I feel like um having this network of people all talk about the same um leadership, um, the way that we deal with certain situations has really improved my leadership journey.
