Hello, I'm Dr. William Jackson, the chair of the Opportunities in Optometry (OIO) Grant Committee. The OIO, which is sponsored by Optometry Cares. The goal of this committee is to increase the number of underrepresented minorities in optometry. The OIO was started back in 2021 and gives out one time $1,500 grant to help defray the cost of the OAT optometry school application, attire and even travel expenses for the interviews. This is the fourth year of the grant committee which means the first students awarded this grant will be entering the fourth year of optometry school. This fall, since the inception of the program, there have been 75 grant recipients. Thanks to Optometry Cares and all of you involved and let us continue to support the Opportunities in Optometry Grant Program.
