Hello. I'm Dr. Jacquie Bowen, vice president of the American Optometric Association, and a board member of the Optometry Cares Board. Several years ago, my nephew who was in college at the time found himself stranded in a blizzard with a broken down car near a small town in the Midwest. I reached out to the optometrist in that community. I did not know her but she responded immediately and really helped my nephew out that blizzard night. I was very grateful but not surprised because that's who optometrists are: we take care of each other. It is the fabric of our being to take care of people. As a donor to Optometry Cares—The AOA Foundation, I know that my donation is being used with that same level of compassion, rapidly responding to needs and also supporting many important programs that help us take better care of our patients.
