Speaker: Jonah Christensen

What products/services do you provide, and why did you choose to do this for your income generating activity?

Jonah Christensen: Hi, this is Jonah Christensen. The service that I'm providing is car detailing. I have two options, a light clean and a heavy clean. With the heavier one I go a little bit more into detail. People need detailing because of the area that we live in. We live in Hawaii. There are two main reasons that they need it. Number one are the conditions. We're right next to the beach so people get sand and dirt in their cars all the time and the salty air around us leaves this film on the cars and if that isn't regularly cleaned, then the cars can get super rusty and break down. The second reason is because there is a lack of detailing service on the island. The closest carwash is about 45 minutes away. I have also been professionally trained by another detailer. I actually think he's one of the only ones on the island. So people need car detailing and they want it, they are willing to pay for it so they are a very good target market and there aren't a lot of competitors on the island either.

About how many sales have you made since the Entrepreneurship unit began? About how much profit have you made?

Jonah Christensen: I have made four sales and as a result, I have two monthly subscription services. My total profit has been $335 with another $50 service confirmed for tomorrow.

Choose two Rules of Thumb you've learned in class that you've applied to your IGA. Explain how you applied each of them, and the outcomes.

Jonah Christensen: So the two Rules of Thumb that I'm going to talk about today are Start Small, Think Big and Value Your Customers. Starting off with Start Small, Think Big, four sales is not a lot, but the profit margin is big and more sales in the future will make more profit for my business. And right now, my only limitation is time. My business will grow. as I practice the second Rule of Thumb, Value your Customers. Sometimes I will throw in a little extra attention and get my customers' cars more clean than what they paid for and they will get more than they expected. So as a result, they're willing to use my services again as a subscription. I have already seen this example with two of my customers. They would like a monthly cleaning service and they will refer their friends to me. I've also seen this with some of my customers. And so I have learned that when I bring value to my customers, I bring value to my business.
