Speaker: Matthew P. Abdel, MD FAAOS, Moderator, Symposium Q - Periprosthetic Joint Infections of the Knee
Matthew P. Abdel, MD FAAOS: Hi, this is Matt Abdel from the Mayo Clinic, and I'm thrilled to talk to you about our symposium on periprosthetic joint infections of the knee.
Matthew P. Abdel, MD FAAOS: This is a great session that's going to talk about how to diagnose periprosthetic joint infection in 2023, how to optimize patients prior to surgery, how to take care of periprosthetic joint infections, both in the acute and chronic setting, and how to manage antibiotics and time courses throughout the entire episode of care for these complex patients.
Matthew P. Abdel, MD FAAOS: I encourage you to attend our symposium. We have a world class faculty. We're going to talk about diagnosis and treatment of patients with periprosthetic joint infection, and we're also going to talk about prevention. And these will all be pragmatic tips that you can take back to your surgical practice, literally the week after the Academy. after the Academy.
Matthew P. Abdel, MD FAAOS: A couple of key takeaways you can anticipate for our symposium: Number one, what's the best way to diagnose periprosthetic joint infection in 2023. Number two, how to take care of the acute postoperative and acute hematogenous infection. And number three, how to take care of the chronic periprosthetic joint infection, including antibiotic management.
Matthew P. Abdel, MD FAAOS: Our symposium is for learners of all ages. Residents and fellows interested in hip and knee arthroplasty. Those attendings early in their career, taking care of some of these complex patients. And even the expert revision surgeon who takes care of a lot of periprosthetic joint infections, will learn some tips and tricks from our world class faculty on managing periprosthetic joint infections around the knee.
Matthew P. Abdel, MD FAAOS: What I'm most looking forward to at the Annual Meeting in 2023 is connecting with colleagues and friends and having a high level of education with intermixed symposium, ICL, poster and paper presentation.
