Speaker: Matthew P. Abdel, MD FAAOS, Moderator, Symposium F - Tips and Tricks to Save You During Revision THAs

Matthew P. Abdel, MD FAAOS: Hi, this is Matthew Abdel from the Mayo Clinic, and I'm really excited to discuss with you and encourage you to attend our symposium at the Academy this year.

Matthew P. Abdel, MD FAAOS: This symposium is entitled, Tips and Tricks to Save you During Revision Total Hip Arthroplasty, and the goals of it are to really give you pragmatic, technical tips, with emphasis on surgical video to help you expose complex revision hips, how to address removing components from the acetabular and femeral side, and how to reconstruct both the acetabular and femoral sides. We'll also discuss common interoperative and postoperative complications, how to mitigate and treat those.

Matthew P. Abdel, MD FAAOS: What I'm most looking forward to an Academy this year is reconnecting with colleagues and friends, getting the best education as possible through our symposia, ICL, and paper and poster sessions, and also having the opportunity to engage in a big format that allows the exchange of ideas amongst those within our own specialty, but outside our own subspecialty.

Matthew P. Abdel, MD FAAOS: I encourage you to attend this particular symposium because we have a world class faculty. It's giving you pragmatic surgical tips and tricks. And we're going run the gamut on revision total hip arthroplasty from exposure to implant removal to reconstructing the acetabulum, to reconstructing the femoral side. And in this entire session we'll go from top to bottom on revision total hip arthroplasty.

Matthew P. Abdel, MD FAAOS: Three takeaways you can anticipate from this particular symposium is number one, how to execute complex revision approaches. Number two, how to reconstruct the acetabulum the acetabulum in both simple and complex revisions. And number three, how to reconstruct the femoral side again in both simple and complex revision total hip arthroplasty.

Matthew P. Abdel, MD FAAOS: Our symposium is for all learners, it's for residents and fellows interested in hip and knee arthroplasty. It's for those that are early in their career executing revision and total hip arthroplasties. And it's really for the expert revision total hip arthroplasty surgeon as well. There will be surgical tips and tricks for all individuals who are in the room.
