Laurel Hatch: Hello, my name is Laurel and I'm from Calgary, Alberta. The first teacher I would like to recognize is Alex Hassell, a teacher at Colonel J Fred Scott school in Calgary. Miss Hassel taught Nolan. My youngest grade one last year, we took the grade one classes, swimming and for such young kiddos, it is an endurance exercise to get everyone off the bus into their swimming gear, into the pool, out of the pool and dried off, back into their clothes and back onto the bus. I attended as a volunteer for several days but then had to work several shifts. My son was concerned that he would sit alone on the bus and that he would be forgotten at the pool. I reassured him that this would not be the case. I mentioned his concerns to miss hassle just hoping that she could keep an eye on him considering she had a full class of small humans to look after much. To my surprise that day, I got an email update from Miss Hassell. She let me know who Nolan sat with on the bus and she included some photos of Nolan having a great time in the pool in the midst of complete swimming chaos. She took the time to make sure my son felt safe. Welcome and noticed her attention to detail and care are second to none and this is very inspiring.
